Wal-Mart prices won't stay low much longer. Much of this stuff is a great investment now. Better to buy it all now then think you can trade your shiny metal for it after tshtf.

Just like Iraq. We toppled the government and everybody went straight for the arms depots. We were running around looking for nonexistent WMDs and failed to "secure the peace." This Paul Bremer guy did more of the same as Commissar of Iraq or whatever his title was. |

" 35. Tuna Fish (in oil)"

Re: Top 100 Items to Disappear First During a National Emergency
Anyone else reading the comments to the guy's blog post and thinking about how F'in stupid people are? I don't even know if I'll bother buying the stuff, when SHTF, I'm sure everyone will have at least one item I want. After reading these comments, I figure I'll just go take it, and won't feel bad about it. :banghead:
And if anyone resists, I'm doing the world a favor. Someone needs to tend to the gene pool, its long past due for a good skimming. |

Re: Top 100 Items to Disappear First During a National Emergency
Something else I would add to the list. Sewing needles, thread, fabric (for patching or making new clothes), yarn, knitting and crochet needles. If you have a generator, you could power a sewing machine.

I often hear from the teetotalers that they don't need liquor. If you look at a lot of cold remedies you'll find alcohol as a main ingredient. It isn't because drunkeness is a curative--it's because alcohol is a great solvent for a lot of herbs and other drugs. Tinctures need strong alcohol to draw out the active ingredients. Oh, sure, half your neighbors will be self-taught brewers within a year, but are you going to risk your life by ingesting it? The good ones will show themselves eventually, and the bad ones strung up, but if you're looking at an abscessed tooth and you need to extract it without the laudanum... Re: Top 100 Items to Disappear First During a National Emergency
I purchased a whole buttload of paper when Wal-Mart had the back to school sale: notebooks for $0,10/70 pages and $0,30/150 pages. They were out the first time, and they were also out when I left next time :D
It would also be wise stock up on any prescription medicine, even if it requires tapping into the black market. |

The medicines you need are the ones you take and you can just siphon off a supply, but you got to rotate that too. Here is another thing, you could always try asking your doctor. Say, you could even try making friends with your doctor, and figuring out where he lives, so you got a supply if tshtf. Doctors and nurses are major assets in your "survival network." If you are talking about a disruption of more than a month in pharmaceuticals your are talking about something past the usual SHTF scenarios, like, headed on its way to TEOTWAWKI. If you are figgerin you need more than a month laid back than you are thinking Mad Max because a lot of pharmaceutical production is leaner than it used to be because of JIT inventory practices, or so I hear. Even in the Great Depression doctors were working. You are thinking collapse if you think you need more than a month of pharmaceuticals. Btw, the same principle applies to all destructive devices and class III weapons. Dont break the law. If it's a SHTF scenario you dont really need that stuff, and if it's way past that on the way to collapse, you'll figure out how to grab that stuff easy enough. |
Re: Top 100 Items to Disappear First During a National Emergency
That's all good stuff to have, but 'disappear first' ?
Say a guy is looting a store in a national emergency and he can only carry one big item. I'd think he'd grab food for his family before he'd grab #3, a portable toilet. I'd say food of any kind, guns and ammo, cig's and alcohol, water. Water is the most important but for most people would be down the list. |
